[Makoto Kubota and the Sunset Orchestra]
Formed in 1972, centered around Makoto Kubota, the band released their solo album "Machibouke" (1973), followed by other masterpieces such as "Sunset Gang" (1974), which was essentially the band's debut album despite being released under a solo name, and "Hawaii Chanpuru" (1975), which was one of the first to incorporate Okinawan and Hawaiian music. In 1980, they changed their name to The Sunsets and made their international debut. Assimilating everything from blues and folk to the second-line beat of New Orleans, they created a unique, earthy sound, making them one of the most important Japanese rock bands of the 1970s.
